When a Mighty Mule gate operator has a cracked weld, a bent bracket, or a failed hinge mount, the fix usually runs between $185 and $420 installed here in New York, and we carry most common Mighty Mule fabrication parts and weld-ready stock on the truck. We’re an independent Kingswell company, not a Mighty Mule dealer, which means we match parts across the Mighty Mule line without a brand-flag to wave, and we weld or replace what’s failed rather than upselling you a full system. Most owners discover the problem the same way: the gate sags, scrapes, or stops mid-swing, and a close look shows a cracked pivot plate or a weld that’s finally let go after years of New York freeze-thaw cycles and road salt working on the metal.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Mighty Mule has changed its series naming more than once, so we identify parts by measurement and mounting pattern first, then cross-check the model label. The older MM260, MM360, and MM560 swing-arm series used a specific post-bracket spacing that does not always interchange with the newer MM571W, MM572W, and MMK960 series, even though the arms look similar at a glance. If you can find the model tag on the control box or the underside of the arm, that helps us quote faster, but we don’t leave without measuring the bracket centers, the gate leaf weight, and the post-to-hinge distance ourselves.
For fabrication specifically, the Mighty Mule line relies on steel post brackets, hinge plates, and gate straps that rust at the weld points long before the operator itself quits. OEM brackets are available for most series, but a good aftermarket bracket cut and welded to match the original bolt pattern is often stronger than the factory piece, particularly on older MM360 units where the stock bracket was thin for a heavy gate. We’ll always tell you which route saves money and which one buys more time. The honest answer in New York is usually the aftermarket bracket with a heavier gauge and a fresh weld, because the original design doesn’t account for a decade of road-shoulder salt and humidity off the East River.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate sags or drags at the latch end. The hinge weld or the post bracket has shifted under the gate’s weight, usually because the original weld wasn’t gusseted for the leaf size it’s carrying.
- Listen for a metallic squeak or grind at the hinge point. That’s metal-on-metal movement at a cracked plate. The crack may not be visible until weight comes off the gate, but the sound tells you it’s there.
- Operator arm appears to “kick” or lift when it pushes. The post bracket deflecting under load means its weld has partially failed. The arm still moves, but it’s fighting a bracket that’s flexing instead of holding.
- The gate catches on the ground or on a paver it used to clear. This is often the gate leaf itself settling due to a failed upper hinge weld, not just ground heave. New York winters freeze and lift concrete, but a weld that was holding wouldn’t sag this much.
- Fresh rust streaks running from a weld seam. Saltwater air, road brine, and spring melt get into the weld’s heat-affected zone and start the clock. Once a seam stains, it’s losing metal from the inside out.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For the New York area, we price by what’s actually failed. A simple post-bracket replacement with a new steel plate welded in place runs $185 to $310. A full hinge re-fabrication with the gate removed, straightened, and re-hung lands between $340 and $420. If both hinge posts need new plates and gussets, you’re usually in the $380 to $480 range. We quote the part and the labor separately on paper, and the number we hand you before we strike an arc is the number you pay. No re-quoting after we’ve cut the old bracket off.
Every fabrication repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, written on the invoice. If a weld we put in fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a warranty-adjacent policy. It’s a written guarantee from a Kingswell company, the same one we stamp on every job. Part of the price you see includes that second-visit promise, and you shouldn’t have to ask for it.
DIY or Call Us?
If your Mighty Mule gate is sagging or catching, there are things you can safely check yourself: look for a visible crack in the bracket plates, push gently on each post to see if it moves at the base, and check whether the gate leaf is still level. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to re-weld a bracket or hinge while the gate is still hung, because a gate leaf under tension can shift the moment the old weld is cut, and that’s a pinch point nobody wants to learn about the hard way. Same goes for repairs on any gate that carries a spring or a counterweight. We’re happy to talk you through the safe checks over the phone and then send a background-checked, uniformed tech in a real arrival window to do the hot work. Call (845) 259-0242 and tell us what the gate is doing, or not doing, and we’ll give you a real number before we hang up.
FAQs
Factory Mighty Mule brackets and hinge welds typically hold 8 to 12 years in New York before rust or metal fatigue shows up, but that’s shorter for gates near salted roads, in low spots where slush pools, or on properties within a few blocks of the East River or the harbor. We regularly replace failed welds on Mighty Mule gates that are 10 years old, and in Jackson Heights, we’ve seen post brackets fail in 6 years where sidewalk salt gets kicked up onto them all winter. Call us for an inspection if your gate is past the 8-year mark and has never been re-welded.
A cracked bracket can often be welded and reinforced with a steel gusset plate, and that’s usually cheaper than replacing the entire hinge assembly, but if the crack runs through the bolt hole or the metal is rust-thinned beyond a safe thickness, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll always show you the crack before we decide, explain why we’re repairing or replacing, and the price is agreed before any work starts. To schedule a fabrication assessment, call (845) 259-0242.
Most bracket and hinge fabrication work is a half-day to a full day on site, depending on whether we need to remove the gate leaf and whether the old welds are rust-welded in place. Gate removal and re-hanging adds time but not drama, and we’ll give you a written arrival window and price before we send the truck. We stock enough steel plate, gusset stock, and Mighty Mule-compatible brackets on the truck to avoid a second visit in most New York service areas.
We stock common Mighty Mule post brackets, hinge plates, control-box mounts, and universal gate straps in the truck, along with welding consumables for fabrication work, and we also keep parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems where a retrofit makes more sense than patching old metal. If a Mighty Mule-specific part isn’t on the truck, we can source it within a day or two in New York and we’ll tell you that before any work begins. The price you approve includes the part, the labor, and the written 365-Day Done Right Promise.
