An Elite keypad or intercom replacement in New York typically runs $340 – $720 installed, parts and labor included, and we stock the common Elite-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and control boards on our trucks so most jobs wrap up the same day we arrive. The price depends on whether we’re swapping a keypad, a telephone-entry intercom board, or the power supply feeding both. Most owners call because the keypad won’t wake up, a tenant’s intercom buzzes but won’t open the gate, or the display still lights but won’t pass a code. By the time a New York owner calls us, they’ve usually reset breakers, swapped batteries, punched in the code ten times, and still can’t get through. We’ll tell you exactly what it runs before any work begins.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
We service keypad and intercom failures across the Elite SL-series slide gate operators, the Elite CSW and CSL swing line, and most legacy Elite units still out there on New York driveways and commercial lots. The keypad side is usually a simple Wiegand-output keypad wired into the operator’s control board, so compatibility comes down to output protocol and voltage, not the gate model itself. Elite intercom systems are less forgiving: the telephone-entry boards are paired with specific wiring and transformer setups, and we’ve seen owners buy a generic board that fits the enclosure but won’t talk to the Elite relay logic. The OEM Elite part is always the safest route for intercom boards. For keypads, a quality Wiegand-compatible replacement does the same job, and we’ll be straight with you about which is worth spending OEM money on. The gotcha to check before you order anything: the keypad’s output type is printed on a small label on the back of the unit, and if it reads 26-bit Wiegand, you don’t have to match the keypad to the gate brand at all. If it reads something proprietary, you do.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- The keypad is dead, no lights, no beeps. Nine times out of ten, the power supply feeding the keypad has failed, and the keypad itself is fine. We check supply voltage before we quote a keypad swap, because replacing a $60 transformer beats replacing a $220 keypad for no reason.
- The keypad lights up but rejects every code. This is usually a failing keypad membrane or a control board that’s lost its stored codes. If the gate still opens from a remote or the intercom, the problem is at the keypad, not the operator.
- The intercom rings the house but won’t release the gate. The intercom audio side works, but the relay output isn’t triggering the operator. This is a failed intercom board relay, which is repairable on some boards and not worth repairing on others.
- You can hear audio, but it’s so faint or garbled the caller can’t make out a word. Moisture has worked into the intercom enclosure or the speaker diaphragm has corroded. New York winters and wet springs do a number on intercom hardware mounted in brick pillars without a proper weather seal.
- Codes vanish after a power flicker. The backup battery or capacitor on the keypad board has died, so the unit resets to factory every time Con Ed blinks. That’s a board-level repair, and a quicker fix than most people expect.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For Elite keypad and intercom work in New York, here’s how the numbers break down.
- Keypad replacement (parts and labor): $340 – $520
- Intercom telephone-entry board replacement: $460 – $720
- Power supply or transformer replacement: $190 – $310
- Keypad membrane or button rebuild: $150 – $250
The range comes down to whether we’re replacing an OEM Elite part or a quality aftermarket equivalent, and whether the wiring in the enclosure needs to be cleaned up or re-terminated. New York weather means we always check the enclosure seal and interior condition before installing anything new, because a fresh board in a leaking housing is a repair we’ll be doing again for free inside the warranty, and we’d rather fix it right the first trip. Your written price covers the part, the labor, the seal work, and the post-install programming, and it’s quoted and agreed before a single screw comes out. The repair itself carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, written on your invoice.

Keypad and intercom work is low-voltage, so the shock hazard is mild compared to working inside the operator’s line-voltage section. But the real risk is miswiring: touch the wrong terminal on the control board and you can smoke a $400 board in half a second. What you can safely do before calling is check the breaker, confirm power is reaching the keypad enclosure, and look for obvious corrosion or a loose wire at the terminal strip. What you shouldn’t do is start swapping boards or keypads based on a guess. We are an independent New York service provider, not an Elite factory branch, and we’re happy to be straight with you about what’s a real fix and what’s a gamble. Tell me what the gate is doing, or not doing, and I’ll give you a real number before we hang up. If you’d rather not touch the wiring at all, call (845) 259-0242 and we’ll take it from there.
FAQs
Expect 5 to 8 years from a New York installation before the keypad membrane or intercom board starts showing failures, less if the unit sits in direct sun or a brick pillar that holds water. Coastal areas and anything facing full southern exposure age faster.
Yes, in many cases a failing keypad is a worn membrane or a dead backup battery, and we repair those for $150 to $250. If the board itself has failed, replacement is usually cheaper than board-level repair. Call (845) 259-0242 and we’ll give you the straight answer.
Most keypad or intercom replacements take 60 to 90 minutes on site, including programming and testing the full cycle from code entry to gate opening. If the wiring needs re-terminating, add another hour.
We stock common Elite-compatible keypads, power supplies, and intercom boards on our trucks, and we also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so most New York calls wrap up the same day. If we need a specific OEM Elite board, it’s usually in hand within two business days.
