BFT keypad and intercom repair in New York typically runs $240 – $520 installed, and we stock BFT-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and weather housings on our trucks so most swaps happen same-day. The way owners usually find us: the keypad beeps but the gate won’t move, or the intercom rings the house but the voice is so distorted you can’t understand a word, or water got into the housing after a hard rain and now the buttons do nothing at all. Those are the three failure patterns we see most on BFT systems across the five boroughs and out into Westchester. This page tells you what’s fixable, what needs replacing, and what it’ll cost before you commit to anything.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
We work on the full BFT line most commonly installed in New York residential and light-commercial gates. That includes the BFT EOS, BFT IGEA, BFT Deimos BT, BFT Phobos, and the older BFT RIGEL series. Keypad-wise, the big compatibility gotcha is voltage: BFT keypads run on either 24V DC bus wiring or a dry-contact relay setup, and if you buy the wrong version for your control board it’ll either not power up or the gate will ignore it entirely. We check the board, not just the pad.
On intercoms, the split is between audio-only BFT units and video intercoms tied to the BFT ULP/CLONIX series. Audio-only systems are simpler and cheaper to repair. Video units have more failure points: camera, mic, display, and power supply. If you still have the original manual or can read the model number off the back of the keypad, that saves a trip. If you can’t, we can identify it on-site.
One thing to know about OEM versus aftermarket: BFT’s genuine keypads are well built, but their rubber button membranes wear out faster in New York’s freeze-thaw cycle than in drier climates. We stock both OEM BFT replacement pads and a quality aftermarket equivalent that uses a thicker silicone membrane. The aftermarket version often lasts longer in outdoor New York installations, and it runs about 25% less than genuine BFT price. We’ll show you both, give you the difference in writing, and let you choose.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Buttons need hard, repeated presses. This is almost always the rubber membrane under the keypad face degrading. In New York humidity and road salt air, the membrane stiffens and develops micro-cracks within 3 – 5 years outdoors. Early fix: replace the membrane. Ignored: water gets into the circuit board and you’re replacing the whole keypad.
- The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. That tells us the keypad is powered and sending signal, but the control board isn’t acting on it. Common cause: a failed relay on the keypad’s output side, or a blown fuse on the BFT board from a voltage spike. This one’s often repairable without swapping the pad.
- Intercom rings but voice is garbled, squealing, or cuts out. Feedback loop or a failing audio transformer. On BFT audio units, the speaker and mic share a housing; when the seal goes, moisture corrodes the connections and the audio degrades fast. Sometimes it’s a $40 part. Sometimes the audio module’s done.
- Keypad works fine in dry weather, dead after rain. Water ingress. The housing gasket has failed or a previous install didn’t seal the conduit properly. This is the most common BFT keypad killer in New York, where we get coastal storms and hard freezes that expand whatever crack already existed.
- Video intercom shows a black screen but audio works. Camera module failure, or a broken wire in the video line where it passes through the gate hinge. Hinge wear is a New York gate-specific problem – the constant motion flexes the wire until the jacket cracks and the conductors break inside.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For BFT keypad and intercom repair in New York, here’s the honest range based on what we install most weeks.
| Job | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| BFT keypad membrane replacement (parts + labor) | $240 – $320 |
| Full BFT keypad replacement (aftermarket, installed) | $280 – $380 |
| Full BFT keypad replacement (OEM genuine, installed) | $380 – $480 |
| BFT audio intercom module swap | $260 – $420 |
| BFT video intercom camera/module replacement | $320 – $520 |
The range depends on wiring condition, housing accessibility, and whether we need to run new low-voltage wire from the keypad to the control board. Every quote includes the part, labor, wire or connectors if needed, and a written price before any work starts. No surprises at the door. And every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the keypad or intercom fails within that year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That guarantee is printed on the invoice, not just mentioned in passing.
DIY or Call Us?
BFT keypad and intercom wiring is low-voltage, so it isn’t dangerous like a main panel or a high-tension gate spring. But there’s real risk in DIY: you can short the BFT control board by miswiring a new keypad, and a replacement control board runs $300 – $600. We’ve seen New York homeowners buy a $40 keypad online, wire it wrong, and turn a simple swap into a full board replacement. That’s the expensive lesson.
What you can safely check: read the model number off the back of the keypad or intercom, note whether the symptom happens only in rain or cold, and check the breaker on the gate’s power supply. Those details save diagnostic time. Then call us. Tell me what the gate is doing – or not doing – and I’ll give you a real number before we hang up. That number is (845) 259-0242.

FAQs
Outdoors in New York, expect 4 – 7 years from a BFT keypad before the membrane seals fail, shorter if it’s mounted on a south-facing wall in full sun or near salt air in the Rockaways. Intercoms last about the same, with video units closer to 4 years. A properly sealed housing extends that significantly. Call (845) 259-0242 if yours is acting up and we’ll assess it on-site.
Yes, if the failure is the button membrane, a relay, or corroded wiring – those are repairable. If water has reached the main circuit board, the repair usually isn’t economical and replacement makes more sense. We’ll tell you which path applies to yours before quoting. Call (845) 259-0242 for a straight answer.
Most keypad swaps run 45 minutes to an hour once we’re on-site. Audio intercom modules are about an hour. Video intercom replacements with camera and display run up to 2 hours if we need to re-pull wire. We carry the common BFT parts on our trucks, so in most of New York the job is done in one visit.
We stock BFT-compatible keypads, membranes, audio modules, and common housings on our service trucks across New York. Specialty BFT video modules or rare series-specific parts sometimes need 2 – 3 business days to source. We’ll tell you at the time of booking whether your part is on the truck or needs ordering. Call (845) 259-0242 and we’ll give you that answer in one conversation.
