Get your free estimateFAAC Access Control Installation: The New York Owner’s Guide
FAAC access control installation in New York typically runs $240 – $640 installed depending on the specific keypad, card reader, or intercom module your system uses, and most jobs are completed the same day we arrive. We stock FAAC-compatible control hardware on the truck so we can usually match the part to your gate operator, wire it in, and have you testing it before we leave. You usually discover the problem the hard way: the keypad lights up but the gate won’t move, or a card reader that worked for three years suddenly ignores everyone, or the intercom squawks static instead of letting you buzz someone in.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
FAAC builds access control into most of their swing-gate and slide-gate operator lines, and the compatibility depends on the control board inside the operator, not just the brand name on the housing. The most common setups we see in New York are FAAC 412, 422, and 770 series swing operators paired with keypads, proximity readers, or intercom stations, plus the older 390 and 750 slide operators that still run hundreds of gates across the five boroughs and Westchester. Here’s the gotcha that trips people up: FACC’s older boards use a 24V DC accessory output while some newer boards run the same accessories on 12V DC, and matching a 12V reader to a 24V board (or the reverse) will either under-power the reader or cook it. We check the board revision before we sell or install anything. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, FAAC’s own branded keypads and readers are solid but expensive. We often recommend quality aftermarket equivalents from suppliers we’ve tested for years, especially for older FAAC models where OEM parts have been discontinued. The aftermarket units usually cost 30 – 40% less and carry the same functional lifespan. We’ll tell you honestly which makes sense for your specific board.

Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This usually points to a failed relay on the control board or a broken wire between the keypad and the operator. The keypad is talking, but the signal isn’t reaching the board.
- Some codes work, others don’t. Failed individual buttons on the keypad membrane are common after years of New York weather, especially on units mounted in direct sun or exposed to ice and road salt spray near the curb.
- Card reader beeps but won’t release the gate. The reader is reading the card fine, but the controller isn’t passing the signal through. We see this a lot on FAAC installations where a power surge has partially damaged the controller.
- Intercom audio is full of static or one-way. Corroded terminal connections or a failing speaker/microphone module. On New York gates near the water, salt air accelerates this significantly.
- Gate opens randomly or doesn’t close all the way. A sticking relay in the access module or a misadjusted close limit on the FAAC operator. These two problems are often confused, and we diagnose both on the same visit.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In New York, a basic FAAC-compatible keypad replacement runs $240 – $380 installed. A proximity card reader or intercom module runs higher, typically $380 – $640, because the wiring harness is more involved and the parts themselves cost more. What drives the range is whether we’re swapping a like-for-like unit on an existing mount, or running new low-voltage wire from the access point to the board. If we’re adding a second entry point or relocating a keypad, that’s additional labor. Parts and labor are quoted separately so you see exactly what you’re paying for. Every installation includes the wiring check, the mounting, programming your codes or cards, and a demonstration before we leave. And like every job we do, the price is written down and agreed to before any work starts. The installation carries our 365-day written guarantee, same as any repair we perform.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things on your own. Confirm the keypad or reader is getting power. Look for obvious physical damage to the unit or the wiring where it exits the conduit. Clean the keypad face and card reader with a dry cloth. If those don’t solve it, stop there. Access control runs on low voltage, but the low-voltage wiring connects to a control board that handles the gate operator’s 120V or 240V supply, and working inside that housing while the operator is powered is genuinely dangerous. Beyond the safety concern, the real issue is diagnosis. We see owners replace a perfectly good keypad because the actual failure was a corroded splice in the ground, fifteen feet from the accessory. That’s money down the hole. Call (845) 259-0242, tell us what your access control is doing or not doing, and we’ll give you a straight answer.
FAQs
Plan on 8 – 12 years for a quality FAAC keypad or reader installed in New York’s climate, with units near the water or on unshaded south-facing mounts often failing at the 6 – 8 year mark due to UV exposure and salt corrosion. We stock direct replacements plus aftermarket equivalents for most FAAC systems. Call (845) 259-0242 and we’ll match the right part to your operator model the same day.
Occasionally yes, especially when the problem is a corroded terminal, a loose connection, or a blown fuse on the board. When it’s a dead keypad membrane or a fried reader module, replacement is cheaper than the repair labor would be. We’ll tell you which applies to your unit after a diagnostic visit. Estimates are free.
Most single-unit keypad or reader replacements take 45 – 90 minutes once we’re on site. Intercom or multi-access installations can take two to three hours. We arrive with the parts and the wiring on the truck, so there’s usually no second visit. Call (845) 259-0242 to schedule a specific arrival window.
Yes. We carry FAAC-compatible keypads, proximity readers, intercom modules, and the low-voltage wiring and connectors to install them. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If you let us know your gate operator model when you call, we’ll confirm we have the exact part before we roll the truck.
